new marathon world record at berlin marathon: haile gebrselassie runs 2:03:59 !!

ethiopia's haile gebrselassie broke his own world record, for the second year in a row at the berlin marathon!! he's now the first person to run a marathon in 2 hours and 4 minutes, coming in 1 second under with 2:03:59 - awesome!

right now i'm waiting for emmy and rob to meet me, then we'll drive into the city for the marathon tune-up (what promises to be a humid, soggy, 18 miles). what a great way to start the morning!!

here is the news report and a few photos from the associated press.

Wow, that's incredible! He broke the half world record a few years ago here in Phoenix, but I think that record has already been shattered. OMG, wouldn't it be amazing to go sub-2?

Have a great 18 miler with Emmy & Rob this morning!

5:37 AM? Is that the best you could do? All of the major newswires beat you to the scoop. ;)

I was planning to run 4:43 pace in the tuneup this morning, but I wanted to let Haile have his day, so I ran 8:10s instead.
