2018 Stratford Last Chance for Romance 3 Miler: Race Photos & Results

The Stratford Last Chance for Romance was an oasis of dry, sunny weather - and a race as well!  Given the last two days of rain - and the rain coming down right now as I post this, it was wonderful to be outside and enjoy the respite from the otherwise waterlogged surroundings :D

As for the race itself (formerly the Stratford Sweetheart Run and 4 Miles, instead of 3), it's great course to run.  Downhill mile 1, relatively flat mile 2, and one BIG hill in Mile 3 - it covers all the bases!

Despite having run this race many times - I discovered the Stratford Amateur Radio Club building at Booth Park!  Wow! While it has nothing to do with the race, except being located in Boothe Memorial Park, it definitely gave this old ham a thrill!!  Unfortunately for me, it was closed - and didn't see any of the local members in attendance.

In a twist, awards were of the (mostly) edible variety.  I say that a bit tongue in cheek because my age a group award was a Christmas mug.  In a first, I took home two mugs from a race (instead of a shirt, we received mugs at sign up)!  I love race mugs!!

As for running the race,  my 22:18, 7:22 pace, was good enough for 3rd AG (hence the 2nd mug)!  And, Emmy and I won our team's AG (although for some reason Team results weren't broken out in that format).  We got some Valentine's day chocolates for that :D

Here are the official race results from runsignup.

World Radio Day - 2018

Today is World Radio Day!

A brief description/history:

The date of 13 February, the day the United Nations radio was established in 1946, was proposed by the Director-General of UNESCO. The objectives of the Day will be to raise greater awareness among the public and the media of the importance of radio; to encourage decision makers to establish and provide access to information through radio; as well as to enhance networking and international cooperation among broadcasters.

The consulted stakeholders also proposed ideas for the programme of celebration: extensive use of social media, annual themes, a dedicated website enabling virtual participation, special radio programmes, radio programmes exchange, a festival involving key partners, and so forth.

On 14 January 2013, the United Nations General Assembly formally endorsed UNESCO’s proclamation of  World Radio Day. During its 67th Session, the UN General Assembly endorsed the resolution adopted during the 36th session of the UNESCO General Conference, proclaiming 13 February, the day United Nations Radio was established in 1946, as World Radio Day.

Happy Groundhog Day - 2018!

Happy Groundhog Day!

Unfortunately, as I write this post, comes news that Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow - another 6 more weeks of winter (as the prognostication goes) :(

Lucky for us, Phil isn't the only game (rodent) in town.  According to Staten Island Chuck - our local authority on the matter - no shadow this morning.  Early Spring it is :D

In any event, early Spring or not, find some time to watch Bill Murry's "Groundhog Day!"

February 2018 Race Schedule

February has seems to have snuck up on me.  My race schedule for this month is still something of a work in progress.  The only definite item so far is the running the 3rd Boston Buildup race (20K) next weekend.  There are a couple probable ones as well - including the "Looper" bowl (a/k/a Leatherman's loop) this weekend - instead of the NYRR's Gridiron 4 Miler and the Stratford's "Last Chance for Romance" 3 Miler (a/k/a the "Sweetheart").  The Stratford race is a bit late in the month, hence the "Last Chance" :D

That one also conflicts with the Colchester Half - one of my favorite events!  But I'll go with the shorter distance because I seriously thinking of running the Hyannis Marathon the next day.  That one is all about the logistics.  If the travel to and from gets worked out, count me in!

Another race that's in the probable category is the VCTC "Tough Love" 2 x 2M Relay in Van Cortland Park next weekend.  It's the day before the Buildup 20K, but if I can line up a partner to run it with me - again, count me in!

Finally, the major question mark for this month is what to do the weekend of 17/18?  There are a couple of options I'm looking at right now, but nothing definite at this point.

Caveats as above, here's how it looks so far:

2/4 - Looper Bowl 10K
2/10 - VCTC Tough Love 2x2M Relay
2/11 - Boston Buildup 20K
2/17-18 - ???
2/24 - Stratford "Last Chance for Romance" 3M
2/25 - Hyannis Marathon?
