today wnyc, new york city public radio, held a "stoop sale," sans stoop, in connection with its move from the municipal building to new space. all the proceeds from the sale will go to fund "radio rookies," wnyc's youth journalism program. i learned of it this morning a post on "only the blog knows brooklyn."
among the items listed, this one caught my eye: ."1998 New York City Marathon Press Pass signed by Soterios Johnson." even though my office is across the street from the municipal building, and the client meeting i had this morning end just after 11, i didn't expect to find the passes there! when i arrived at noon, not only were the passes there . . .
but so too, was the owner, soterios johnson, in person! the runner in me immediately needed to know if he'd actually run the nyc marathon (go figure it was the burning question of the moment). he said, "no, i just covered it for the station. i ride, instead." we chatted for a minute about tri's, running in general, and shorter race distances. i mentioned the press passes would be "two for" because i was as a fan of both the nyc marathon and "morning edition."
the stoop sale underway.
check out the ny times coverage of the event.
