thoughts on norwalk mother's day 10k

this is my second consecutive year running the norwalk mother's day 10k the day after the long island greenbelt trail 50k. as yogi would say, "it's deja vu all over again!" sunday will also be my 4th time overall, running the race:

2004 43:29
2006 41:36
2007 45:09

the race starts and finishes at calf pasture beach. it has one modest hill in mile four, and is a flat, fast course. here is my 2007 race report. however, my most significant memory of 2007 had nothing to do with the race itself. instead, on the drive home after the race, a deer ran across i-287 and careened off the hood of my car! a startling thing to experience on a sunny sunday morning with a decent number of cars out on the highway! yikes!!

i'm looking forward to seeing don, the race director, who i haven't seen since we did the wurtsboro 30k in march. the roll call includes friends and fellow bloggers myriam (who happens to be the race director for the wurtsboro) and dawn (a fellow marathon maniac, and who just happened to run 3 races last weekend).
noticeably absent, however, will be emmy. she is an organizer of the "ride for greenwich," a 7 mile family bike ride sponsored by greenwich safe cycling. she will be there wearing two hats, one as a volunteer and the other as a mom whose son is a participant.

after spending time in norwalkd for race that morning, i'll find myself back in connecticut later in day. our families will be in westport (pat's home town) for mother's day dinner.

You know,I used to live in East Hartford in the early to mid 1990s (used to be a sports reporter at the Hartford Courant) and wish I was a runner back then. The scenery there is beautiful.
good luck on your run.

don't write me off so fast! I'll be there either before, during or after the race to say hello to everyone!
