tea leaf green opened for dark star orchestra on governors island last night (11 july).
the trip over to governors island was pretty stressful because of the traffic nightmare on the fdr drive. emmy met me at 3:45 for the drive in - and we fully expected to catch the 5:15 ferry with time to spare! somehow, at 5:00 we found ourselves in bumper to bumper traffic at the north end of the fdr drive - and didn't reach the the southern end until 5:30! amazingly, in an act of tremendously positive karma, we found street parking right off the exit (next door to frances tavern) and a block from the ferry terminal!
thanks to that bit of luck, we just made the 5:45 ferry with a handful of minutes to spare! the highlight of the drive down the fdr and the ferry ride across to governors island was getting to see 4 of the "waterfalls" currently on display in the city!
we arrived during the first song, "incandescent devil," of tea leaf green's show. it, and two others, "red ribbons" and "let us go," were the only familiar tunes. i had listened to their show at the cabooze (feb 8, 2008: minneapolis, mn) via live music archive to get a taste of what to expect. very good stuff!
all in all, they played a great show and went off at 7 to make way for dso.
the dso show and photos will be posted separately - stay tuned!

Hi Rundangerously,
When you were there, did you see whether or not the island was "runnable"? Based on what I saw on Google maps, I'd love to go there and run the outside loop sometime.
alex,
definitely a runner friendly island. but not much running went on for the shows.
also, i plenty of biking available there!
fyi, i added link to your great park to park rr to my post on the race :D
