july 2010 race schedule

it's hard to believe 2010 is now half-way done! july finds me nursing an annoying summer head cold - nothing serious, just uncomfortable. hopefully, it will be out of my system by the end of the day, or tomorrow.

july is a busy month around here. in addition to the races, summer session two kicks off mid-month (and i'm teaching a graduate estate tax class). katie has a short field hockey camp at uconn and then she heads off to summer camp proper at the end of the month. but, she and i will run the waveny xc summer series 2 person relay together. on the downside, no escarpment trail run for me this year (i'll get in the queens half marathon instead), because it conflicts with katie's first day of camp. we're driving her to new hampshire that weekend.

there's plenty of other great races in july. the month kicks off on the 4th of july, with the putnam county classic 8 miler - and emmy is the co-race director. if you haven't run this one, don't pass it up - it's a great course and fantastic event! the very next day is "four on the fifth" in new canaan - another great holiday race. and, later that week, i hope to run my first van cortlandt track club summer xc series race at van cortlandt park (a two person relay w/emmy).

i'll either run the norwalk summer series 7 miler, or volunteer at the race. i'm not sure about that one yet. aside from the xc relay that tuesday night, next up is the vermont 100 mile endurance run. this is one of my favorite events - and i'll be going for my third finish. like last year, rob has agreed to pace me for the last 30 miles! with so many returnees, the race doubles as a weekend long social event!

finally, to round out the month, i'll run the queens half (3rd of 5 in the nyrr grand prix series). i'm trying to run all 5 half marathons this year to complete the series. haven't done all 5 since 2005 - so it's about time :D last, but not least, toying with the idea the 24 hour "around the lake" run. odds are good that i'm in - but won't commit to that one until vermont is done.
