2018 NYRR Retro Run 4 Miler: Race Photos & Results
Hot and humid morning to run 4 miles in Central Park. But the Retro Run was still fun - and afterwards, a bona fide Good Humor truck handing out ice pops! There was also a band taking us down memory lane (mostly 70's stuff) - and that was fun too!
As for the actual race, I was well off my target of 30 minutes. Maybe it was the easy five miler yesterday, but my legs had only one gear this morning - and it wasn't a fast one. My 30:56, 7:44 pace, was okay - and I'm happy with it. But it was the third race of the week(!) - and I may have left some of my speed may back at the Waveny XC Relay and Taconic Beer Mile :D
Here are the official results from NYRR.

2017 NYRR Gridiron 4 Miler: Race Photos & Results
What a difference a month makes. The year kicked off with the Joe Kleinerman 10k - in the low 20s. A month later the Gridiron 4 Miler greeted us with low 30s. But the wind chill, and waiting around for more than 30 minutes until the start, had me frozen solid at the start! It was a slow first mile, not so much because it was crowded (and it was - with over 5,100 runners ultimately finishing the race) but rather my frozen self had to warm up!
As for the race itself, I ran a 29:44, 7:26 pace. It was well under my 30 minute objective (which was something of a soft target). I "voted" for New England on the 72nd Street transverse - not so much because I was rooting for the Patriots -- just didn't want to run the extra few feet to the right :O
NYRR race #2 is in the books!

2015 retro 4 miler: race photos & results
the retro 4 miler this morning was race #6 for me - only 3 more to go (and the volunteer requirement) for the 9+1 for 2016. since i'm in the 2015 marathon, really need only 2 more qualifying races during the rest of this year!
as for the race itself, i had a 30 minute time goal, 7:30 miles. as of the 3 mile mark (with a straight 22:30 split) i was right on the edge of meeting it. but there was a little push left that got me to the finish in less than 7:30 minutes. i finished in 29:36, a 7:24 pace - just under my target!
i didn't get too many pictures this moring because my metro north ran train ran only once an hour (sunday schedule). but i did catch up with some friends at baggage :D
here are the race results from nyrr
and here are a couple more photos up on facebook.

2015 nyrr retro 4 miler packet pick-up
this afternoon went over to the nyrr to pick up my shirt and bib for the retro 4 miler on sunday. normally i pick up my race stuff on thursdays - so it was a bit strange to find myself there on a friday, with the weekend ahead (instead of another work day)! in addition to the retro styled tee shirt (complete with a blue collar), we got bright orange headbands :D
the 4 miler will be my 6th nyrr of the year on the road to 9+1 for the 2016 nyc marathon. it's the first back to back nyrr race weekend in a while (for me). i'll probably sign up for a volunteer opportunity this month to satisfy the +1 requirement.
as always, if you're at this one - say hello!

2015 nyrr run as one 4 miler: race photos & results
the nyrr run as one 4 miler was race number 4 on the road to my 9+1 for the 2016 nyc marathon. great weather for it, although i was mildly underdressed on the commute in to central park - packed light, as they say. despite the early chill, i warmed up by the 2nd mile.
my 29:04, 7:16 pace, was just over my 29 minute target - argh! i will say, however, it took 40+ seconds to cross the start mat - and the crowded first mile (at 7:30, easily the slowest mile of the bunch) - probably accounted for those 4 seconds ;O
but i'll take it - and the great running weather too!
here are the official race results from nyrr.

2015 nyrr run as one 4 miler packet pick-up
seems like only yesterday that i was at nyrr for a packet pick-up (3 weeks ago for the scotland run)! well i was certainly colder - thanks to a surprising wind chill - this afternoon, than it was at the start of the month. winter, it seems, just doesn't want to give up the ghost!
as for running, the run as one 4 miler will be race number 4 on the road to 9+1 for the 2016 nyc marathon. hopefully the weather will warm up enough to run in shorts (or the winds will die down a little) - haha :D
as always, if you're at this one - say hello!

2015 scarsdale 15k & 4 mile races: race photos and results
we had great weather for the scardale races this morning! not the mini-heat wave that kicked off the weekend Saturday. it cooled off enough that the occasional breeze brought a chill with it. i had planned on running he 15k, but at the last minute dropped down to the 4 miler. that was mainly a consequence of having done 10 miles yesterday and didn't feel up to pushing it for 9+ miles today.
the 4 miler was the perfect distance because i pushed enough to get in a solid workout. the 28:40, 7:10 pace was tough. i don't think i could have pushed it under 28 because of the hill climb at the mid-way point. still, i was very happy with the outcome - it was good enough for 2nd place in my age group :
i'll add link to the results once they're up on the scarsdale rec department website.

2014 stratford ymca sweetheart run: race photos & results
it was 21 degrees when i got out of the car at stratford for the ymca 4 mile sweetheart run. but the cold wasn't discouraging - it was the seemingly endless stretches of snow that made it seem as if we ran the race in the frozen tundra of siberia!
i love running this race - and the tough, hilly 4 mile course. this was the first year in recent memory that don wasn't at the base of the hill straddling miles 3 and 4, cheering on the runners. it may have been the reason (excuse) that i walked a few yards of the hill, to reach the 4 mile marker. even so, i managed a 29:31 finish, 7:23 pace. that was well over a minute faster than my 30:47 result last year (albeit i wasn't 100% for that one).
afterwards, there was hot vegetable soup and fresh bread for the post-race recovery :D
here are the race results from hitek racing.

2013 autism speaks 4 miler: race photos & results
what a great day to run in central park - both the men and women's races saw course records fall at the nyrr autism speaks 4 miler this morning! after i finished my race, went back to the finish line to watch the women's race and saw the winner shave 4 seconds from the course record!
as for my own race, i missed a sub-28 finish by just 7 seconds (28:07, 7:02 pace). i didn't go in with a sub-28 as a realistic target - nor did my slow start (a 7:16 crowded first mile) hint at it. but i bounced back with a 6:36 second mile and suddenly there was a decent shot at it. but the west side hills almost put it out of reach when i ran a 7:14 for mile 3. i would needed a 6:55 to hit 28 minutes. unfortunately, with a 7:02, i didn't even break 7 minute for the last mile.
still, i was more than happy with the result (and it was good enough to score for the taconic 50+ team). i happier still to have race #8 in the books! one more and i'll complete my 9+1 for 2014 (that will probably happen at the bronx 10 miler later this month).
here are the race results from the nyrr.

packet pick-up for 2013 nyrr autism speaks 4 miler
yesterday i picked up my bib and tee shirt for the autism speaks 4 miler at the nyrr club. the big surprise - in the confirmatory email - was the extra 15 minutes the men get on saturday morning! instead of the 8 am start, the nyrr pushed back the start to 8:15 to accommodate a bike race in the park that morning. the women's start is still 9 am.
the 4 miler will be my 8th nyrr race on the road to 9+1 for the 2014 nyc marathon. i registered for it earlier this week, together with the bronx 10 miler at the end of the month (which will complete my 9+1 for 2014!).
along with the tee shirts, clear plastic bags were handed out for baggage check. it seems that the days of bringing stuff in your own bag - any bag - have been replaced by this new baggage check system. given that, make sure to pack light!
as always, if you're running this one - say hello :D

2013 stratford sweetheart run 4 miler: race photos and results
the sweetheart run was postponed two weeks from its original date because of a small blizzard that swept across new england. with the snow forecast for this weekend, it almost seemed like another postponement was in the air. luckily not only did the snow hold off, so did the rain! aside from some humidity, it was actually great racing weather!
unfortunately for me, i wasn't 100% for this one. i spent thursday recovering from a nasty bout w/food poisoning. even so, i was determined to line up and have a good race. while i didn't hit my target of a sub-30 this time around, i was more than pleased with my 30:47, 7:42 pace.
that time, combined w/emmy's, was enough for us to win our 100-110 age group! we actually ran 30 seconds better than our combined time at the race last year :D
here are the race results from hi-tek racing.
a few more photos posted on facebook.
