blizzard reshuffles weekend race schedule :O
the blizzard that swept across most of new england on friday, into saturday, swept away the pair of road races on the calendar for this weekend: the stratford sweetheart run and the boston buildup 20k. on thursday, the sweetheart run was actually pushed back until sunday morning - somewhat optimistically as it turned out. on friday morning, the buildup was rescheduled for the following sunday (2/17).
when all the snow finally stopped saturday morning, we had 20+ inches in town! it was much worse in connecticut, with the governor shutting down the roads that morning! ironically, w/no traffic on the roads it would have been a great time to have a race - if anyone could actually reach the start line. that morning, the rescheduled sweetheart run was again postponed - this time for two weeks, until saturday 2/23.
the new date for the buildup conflicts w/the hmrrc albany winter marathon. that's a tough choice, but since i had planned to register race day, i'll probably skip the trip to albany and head over to fairfield for the 20k; as for the sweetheart run, it conflicts w/the colchester half marathon. that's a much tougher dilemma because i really enjoy the half itself and the post-race food afterwards. right now the sweetheart run has the slight edge (and, maybe the lake waramaug polar bear run the following day).
decisions, decisions! and here i thought that punxsutawney phil forecast an early spring was just around the corner :O

tweaking the remaining november race schedule
this should actually read "rewriting" the remaining november race schedule. i had planned on the gateway gobbler 6 miler tomorrow and the cow chip xc 4 miler on saturday to close out the races for november. but a new event, the thanksgiving marathon, is on for tomorrow. not only is it at a great location, van cortlandt park, but it's FREE - and includes shorter distances.
i'm opting for the shortest distance, the 10k (one loop). i may go for a second loop and move up to the half marathon - but my real concern tomorrow is getting home early enough to put the turkey in the oven and start working on our dinner. so the marathon itself is pretty much out of the question because i won't get home before one!
on saturday, instead of running the cow chip xc 4 miler, i'll return to bedford and volunteer at their turkey trot 5k. i've volunteered there for the past couple of years and decided to keep up the tradition - so to speak. once the race goes off, we typically run the course backwards to get in a workout as well.
then, on sunday, i'll head over the tappen zee bridge for todd's "completion" run. it's more of a celebration as todd completes the last few miles of the trail system he's been systematically running over the last few months. aside from the running, there'll be a good deal of socializing as well :D

an updated october 2009 schedule
i added a few races (and a walk) to the original october schedule (and learned of a date change for the great train race), so i thought it would be easier to repost the updated version instead of constantly tinkering with the original.
the reschedule great train race was moved back a week from 10/18 to 10/25. this will be a new double, with the police pumpkin chase that afternoon. the old double, with the wilton halloween hustle in the morning, was broken up when that race was also moved back a week (to 11/1).
two new were races added (and already run), following the maine marathon: run for habitat 5k in bridgeport and the harry murphy xc 5k at van cortlandt park. and, with the date change for the great train race, added the great pumpkin classic, 4m, in its original place (for another double). haven't been to trumble for that race in years, so it should be fun to check it out again.
the last two additions are coming up this saturday, a 5k trail run on staten island in the morning and a 1.5m walk in nyack that evening! i'm very excited about the "scout 5k" because it's a trip down memory lane - revisiting the boy scout camp of my youth, camp pouch! and the walk is fast becoming a tradition with our family. it's the third year in row we'll participate in the light the night walk (along w/my sister-in-law and her kids) in nyack.
here are the events:
10/4 - maine marathon
10/10 - run for habitat 5k
10/11 - harry murphy xc 5k
10/17 - the scout 5k
10/17 - light the night walk, 1.5M
10/18 - great pumpkin classic, 4m
10/18 - scarsdale fall foliage run, 5k
10/24 - nike+ human race 10k
10/25 - the great train race, 6.8m
10/25 - police pumpkin chase, 5k
10/31 - nyrr international friendship run
