today is veterans day, formerly known as armistice day which commemorated the end of world war I (the war ironically known as the "war to end all wars"). after the second world war (after the korean war, actually), the name was officially changed to "veterans" day to honor military veterans of all wars, and military service in general.
SO TAKE THE TIME TO THANK A VETERAN TODAY.
the annual veterans day parade takes place in new york city today. also in the city today is president bush, who observes veterans day on the newly returned aircraft carrier uss intrepid this morning. he will rededicate the veteran warship as a museum after its two year absence from the new york city shoreline for a major refitting and refurbishment.
