2017 Norwalk Summer Series 7 Miler: Race Photos & Results

Soupy, humid (but surprisingly cooler) conditions for the Norwalk Summer Series 7 Miler this morning.  After the first mile or so, felt like running underwater for the rest of the race! I was just able to squeak in under 54 minutes with a 53:59, 7:43 pace :D

Next up is the 9 Miler on July 29th.  That one is a bit tricky for me because the next day is the Escarpment Trail Run!  I've only done that back to back duo once - and really on the fence about trying it again :O

Here are the official results from Lightfoot Runners.

Thanks again to Tony for the great photo of the start!

2017 Norwalk Summer Series 5 Miler: Race Photos & Results

Hot, humid morning for the second race in the 2017 Norwalk Summer Series.  The 5 miler is also the 2nd and last full loop course of the series.  The remaining courses all include double loop variations.

This was my 3rd 5 Miler in a month - and came close (but no cigar), in being the fastest.  But the perfect weather conditions and Central Park gave me a 38:08 at the Retro 5 Miler that kicked off the month of June.  But my 38:25 this morning was a solid 2 minutes faster than the 40:29 at the rain soaked Front Runners LBGT Pride Run last week :D

I'm happy with all of them!

Here are the official results from Lightfoot Runners.  Next race in the Summer Series, the 7 Miler, is on July 15.

2017 Norwalk Summer Series 3 Miler: Race Photos & Results

Soggy morning for a run - even if only a hilly 3 mile loop! The kick-off to the 2017 Summer Series was a bit on the soupy side, but still fun. This race starts alongside the high school track, so took the opportunity to run 4 loops as a warm-up before the start.

I've run this course many times and yet always seem to forget how hilly it is. I ran a too fast first mile (6:58) before slowing down to finish with a 21:49, 7:17 pace. Given the humidity, I was very happy :D

Here are the official results from Lightfoot Runners.  The next Series race (5 Miler) is July 1.

Thanks to Tony for the photo of the Start!

May 2017 Race Schedule

With final exams to give/grade and travel to kick off this month, the earliest I'll be able to line up for a race is Mother's Day!  So hopefully I'll be over in Norwalk to run the Lightfoot Runners 10K :D

Otherwise, the only definite race on the calendar this month is the Brooklyn Half Marathon - and the 4th and last training run for the Great NY Running Exposition 100 Miler at the end of the month (an evening run at that).

So here's how the slimmed down schedule looks:

5/14 - Norwalk Mother's Day 10k
5/20 - NYRR Brooklyn Half Marathon
5/27 - TGNY Training Run #4

If you're at any of these events - say hello!

2015 norwalk mothers day 10k: race photos & results

it was a dreary start to the day - drizzle when i left the house, fog on the drive over to norwalk, and a damp chill over calf pasture beach.  and, once the race was underway, humidity became the real race damper, it was thick all along the course.

but the weather didn't take away from happy mothers day!  and i managed a 46:01, 7:25 finish - just missing a sub-46 by a couple of seconds.  that was a solid minute and a half+ improvement over my scotland run 47:39 last month.  not too shabby for a humid morning :D

next up for me, instead of traveling down to brooklyn for the half - will run the law day 5k in darien.

2014 norwalk mother's day 10k: race photos & results

it's seems like a long time since i've done back to back races on a given weekend.  this morning was the norwalk mother's day 10k on the heels of the healthy kidney 10k in central park yesterday.  without the oppressive humidity we had yesterday morning, the running conditions at calf pasture beach were beautiful!

i had no real time goal in mind at the start - just hitting last year's 47:08 would have been fine.  i was incredibly surprised to run a 45:59 (unofficial) which not only bettered 2013 - but it was just 30 seconds off yesterday's finish!  that was good enough for second in my age group!

next up is the brooklyn half marathon next weekend.

i'll write up a race report for the pair of 10k's tomorrow.

here are the race results from hi-tek racing.

the great photo of the start is tony's :D

may 2014 race schedule

may looked as is if it would kick off with a rest week.  i had though about the long island marathon, but running sybil last weekend made me reconsider heading to long island for a full marathon.  instead i would probably run a local 5k - until... i came across the riverdale y half marathon on sunday!  there's a strong chance i'll line up for that race.

otherwise, may is all about the brooklyn half marathon 2 weeks later.  i love this race and, despite the logistical hassles, is one i always look forward to running.  it's also the 2nd race in the 5 boro challenge.

the week before also kicks off with a nyrr race - the healthly kidney 10k.  it's the first of a pair of 10k's, with the norwalk mother's day 10k the next day. normally i'd stick with the norwalk 10k - and skip the nyrr 10k.  but, since i need to get some points toward the 2015 nyc marathon, going to double up that weekend.

memorial day weekend is all about running the 50th anniversary of the jim fixx 5 miler.  it's a tough course, but a lot of fun to run.  i may squeeze in another race that weekend (the weston 5k) - but haven't firmed up those plans.

may has half a weekend left this month. not sure if i'll race on saturday (may) or sunday (june) - so that one is still open.

here's how it looks so far:

5/4 - riverdale y half marathon
5/10 - nyrr healthy kidney 10k
5/11 - norwalk mother's day 10k
5/17 - brooklyn half marathon
5/26 - jim fixx 5 miler

as always, if you're at any of these races - say hello!

2013 norwalk mother's day 10k: race photos and results

it didn't seem like it would be good morning to run.  it rained the entire drive over to calf pasture beach.  luckily, it was down to a light drizzle by the time i got there - and just a few drops by the time we started.  half way through the sun even managed to make its appearance.

as for the race itself, the mother's day 10k was my 5th straight 10k since the scotland run at the beginning of april.  i ran a 48:40 at the westport minute man 2 weeks ago, so my time goal would be a sub-48 this time around.  my recovery/base building has be going well and i wanted to push the pace a bit to see how my foot would take the extra stress.  if all went well i want to get back to the track and start doing some speed work.

i started off with a pair of sub-7:30 miles - i thought was too fast.  i slowed to a 7:45 for mile three, then had a pair of 7:35 miles.  after 5 miles my foot was no worse for the wear and a felt good continuing to push the pace for the final mile. i crossed the finish in 47:05, a 7:35 pace overall.  i was more than pleased with that outcome (and could probably have squeezed in under 47 minutes if i hadn't slowed down in mile 3).  all in all, a great morning :D
