Happy Summer Solstice 2018!
Happy Summer Solstice!
Summer officially arrived here on the East Coast at 6:07 AM. Unfortunately, it was a rainy kick-off to the longest day of the year. Be that as it may (an it's down to a light drizzle right now), the sun should make its appearance by lunchtime!
Celebrate the Solstice by doing something fun outside today :D

Happy Summer Solstice 2017
Happy Summer Solstice!
Summer 2017 arrived here on the east coast just after midnight (12:24 AM to be precise). After the last few weeks of so-so weather (bouncing between heat wave and rainy gray days), hopefully the sun will stick around for a while!
In any event - get out there and enjoy it because, here in New York, chance of showers late in the afternoon :O

happy summer solstice 2015 - and fathers day too!!
happy summer solstice!
summer officially arrives here on the east coast in a few more hours - at 12:39 pm, in fact. fathers day arrived at midnight! can't remember when these two days last coincided.
i'm marking both days without running - midway between my two eye surgeries (right eye done last wednesday, left one this wednesday). one the plus side, will get better vision - hurray! on the negative side - no running (among numerous activities restricted). that's a major downer because there are so many great races going on!
on the conservative side, i won't be able to lace up my running shoes for 2 weeks following the second surgery. that means i may not get back to running until the first week of july. that's a lot of detraining to make up. but, taking the long view, it's not a big price to pay for getting better eyesight!
so that's where i'm at on this summer solstice/fathers day 2015!
and for all the dad's out there - happy fathers day!

happy summer solstice - 2014 :D
happy summer solstice! the longest day of the year kicked off here less than an hour ago, at 6:51 am. in a somewhat ironic twist, i'll celebrate by running a one mile race this morning. i guess that means i need to run an ultra on the shortest day of the year - haha.
on a historical note - last year the summer solstice coincided w/katie's high school gradation - no race for me that day. this summer she's finished her freshman year at michigan - my how time flies! which once again begs use of the phrase - carpe diem!
so get out there and enjoy the longest day of year... they start getting shorter tomorrow :O

happy summer solstice - 2013!!
happy summer solstice!!
summer officially arrived at 1:04 am here on the east coast. so get out there and enjoy the longest day of the year. for me, it's a trip over to the high school this morning. katie has her graduation today! it's a beautiful day to watch the seniors get their diplomas outside, on the field!
tomorrow, the days start getting shorter...

happy 2010 summer solstice!!

happy summer solstice! summer officially arrived a few minutes ago (7:28 edt) here on the east coast. while tomorrow is the first full day of summer, the heat and humidity jumped the gun and rolled into town, full force, yesterday. we've had an unusually warm may and june this year, which makes it seem like summer arrived last month :D
in any event, get outside and grab some sun today! more importantly, carpe diem - tomorrow the days start getting shorter! i'm planning to celebrate the solstice on wednesday, in new paltz, running the summer solstice 15k. hopefully, this time around we'll make it there on time for the actual race :D
happy summer solstice!!
