Hard to believe it's October! Last month it seemed like old times - a race each weekend (almost, unless the course preview last weekend is counted as a race - haha) and my weekly mileage edged above 40 miles (44.3) for the first time in a few months! Looks like the eye surgery, and the inactivity that resulted from it, is finally behind me.
As for October, this weekend is the Paine to Pain Trail Half - which will undoubtedly be a lot muddier - thanks to the forecasted rain - than the course was last weekend! The following weekend is still a toss up in terms of what to do. I'm leaning toward another half - the Westchester Half (now renamed the "Healing Half" - but still run on the Bronx River Parkway). Or, plan B, might be to go for shorter distances. In that case the Nyack 5k looks interesting.
I'll probably go with the half because the rest of the month is taken up just 5k's - leading into the NYC Marathon on November 1st. There is the Great Pumpkin 5k mid-month (a race I last ran when it was still a 4 miler). And a trio of 5k's the last full weekend (Ghosts & Goblins, Brookfield and New Canaan). The Brookfield 5k is taking the place of the Weston Halloween Hustle - which has been rescheduled to the following weekend, directly conflicting with the NYC Marathon!
Here's how it looks so far:
10/4 - Paine to Pain Trail Half Marathon
10/11 - Healing Half or Nyack 5k
10/18 - Great Pumpkin 5k
10/24 - Ghosts & Goblins 5k
10/25 - Brookfield 5k
10/25 - Pumpkin Chase 5k
As always, if you're at any of these races - say hello!
