2012 norwalk half marathon: race photos and results

the norwalk (sam elpern) half marathon is the last race of the norwalk summer series.  i've run this double loop course many times over the last decade.  sometimes it's hard to believe that i've run it under 1:30 back in the day!  this year i would have been more than pleased to run it in under 1:50 - but i had to settle for a 1:51:50, 8:33 pace.

the 13.1 miles was my longest run in almost 2 months.  it's been week after week of low mileage this summer, as i recover from my foot injury.  next weekend i'm going to push the mileage a little with the 30k.  despite the low mileage and spotty training, i'm still on target to run the nyc marathon - which is running priority #1 right now :D

here are the race results from hi-tek racing.

here are the rest of my photos, posted on facebook.

2012 bronx 10 miler

this is a very belated posted.  ironically, i uploaded these photos that afternoon, but never had a chance to add text!  this was my second 10 miler in as many weeks.  the 1:21:52 was a bit faster than the westport 10 miler (1:22:12) - but barely.

the course had a lot in common with its predecessor, the bronx half.  in fact, the turnaround, by lehman college, was the start of the bronx half.  i had been thinking of it as a half marathon for most of the week, so when i reached the finish it was as if we'd gotten 3 miles lopped off the course as a gift :O

this was race number 8 on the road to 9 +1 for the 2013 nyc marathon.

packet pick-up for the nyrr bronx 10 miler

somehow, i still think of this race as the bronx half marathon - so when i get to mile 10 and see the finish line it may seem like a mirage :D

regardless of the distance, i'm looking forward to running the new course. it's been a few years since i ran the bronx half (as part of the grand prix series).  this race - the second to last of the 5 borough races - will by my first of the 2012 grand prix series.  the manhattan half was snowed out, i was injured for the brooklyn half, the queens 10k conflicted with my july race schedule.  since i probably won't run the staten island race - opting for greta's gallop (a team race) instead - the bronx 10 miler will be my only grand prix race for 2012.

as always, if you're at this one - say hello!

september 2012 race schedule

normally my race schedule is the first post of the month. this time around, the westport summer series 10 miler was on the first day of september. then i waffled on what race to run this weekend - originally planning to do the tuckahoe challenge, but then, on tuesday, i decided to register for the bronx 10 miler instead.

after the bronx 10 miler there'll be a two weekend stretch without any races. those weekend will be spent flying to and from kuala lumpur for a business trip.  that leaves only the last weekend of the month for another race - which will be the putnam county half marathon!  that race has been on my "to do" list for years and now i finally have the chance to run it!

here is how the sparsely populated september race schedule looks:

9/1 - westport summer series 10 miler
9/9 - bronx 10 miler
9/30 - putnam county half marathon

as always, if you're at any of these races - say hello :D

2012 westport summer series 10 miler: race photos and results

the last of the 10 race westport summer series, the labor day weekend 10 miler, took place at staples high school this morning.  it's hard to believe 2012 was its 50th anniversary - and today was the 500th race of the series!

i had a 1:20 time goal - which was pretty ambitious on the heels of thursday night's 4 miler in central park.  but after a 7:30 first mile, my race got away from me (starting with my shoelace becoming untied just before mile 2, and then walking a stretch of the early hills on bayberry lane).  still my 1:22:12, 8:14 pace, wasn't too far off the mark :D

 here are the race results.

the rest of my photos are posted on facebook.

2012 nfl back to footall run

last night's nfl back to football 4 miler in central park was an inaugural event - with the expectation that it's going to be an annual fixture on the nyrr race calendar.  boomer (easiason) and (craig) carton did some pre-race announcing - and pointed out the amani toomer was running the race for charity (he was a handful of feet away from me in my corral)!

as for the race itself, it was fantastic to start in daylight and finish under the lights!  but even with the "cooler" temperature after the sun went down, it was still 79 degrees.  i came in well under my relatively soft target of 30 minutes.  the 29:35 was good enough to crack the top ten in my new 5 year age group :D

here are the race results from nyrr.

packet pick-up for nfl back to football run

yesterday i stopped at niketown to for the nfl back to football packet pick-up.  while niketown is closer to my office, it more of a hassle (having to switch over to the local at 42nd street) than heading up to the nyrr building for the pick-up.  be that as it may, this will be race number 7 on the road to 9 for the 2013 nycm.

more interestingly, however, tomorrow night's race (7:30 start) will be my first evening run in central park in years.  i can't remember whether the last one was the bsa 5k or the chase corp challege - either one was at least 2-3 years ago!  i'm looking forward to this one!

as always, if you're at this one - say hello!
