This afternoon (at 5:58 -- minutes before this evening - ha) we can finally bid goodbye to winter!  It hasn't be a terrible one, but I'm just so over cold weather - and running in cold weather.  Time to warm up :D

No, it is not April Fools Day!  Spring officially arrives here in the northeast at 12:15 PM this afternoon - but the 4th Nor'easter of the month(!) arrives tonight and runs well into tomorrow, bringing yet another blast of March snow...

As the image above shows, that poor bird is flying toward the snow (and away from the sunny spring weather).  How appropriate for this particular season opener!

Happy Spring Equinox - 2017

Happy Spring!  Official the Spring Equinox arrived at 6:28 here on the east coast.  Although it was definitely ignored by Winter, which refuses to give up the ghost this year!  I was marginally warmer this morning (and I'm being charitable because there wasn't much of a wind chill) than it was yesterday, heading into the city for the NYC Half Marathon!

Thankfully, however, the forecast is for temperatures to rise into the 40's (and may even hit 50) this afternoon.  Not a heat wave, but certainly more spring like than the frigid (+snow +ice) conditions that we had to weather last week :O

Anyway - HAPPY SPRING!  Get outside and enjoy some of it!

Happy Spring!  It officially arrived at 12:30 AM this morning!

But it doesn't seem as if the weather gods have gotten on the same page because a snowstorm was forecast for today (now pushed back to tonight and the amount of snow predicted has been reduced substantially).  Still, the idea that we're welcoming the first day of Spring with snow, however slight, is a bit chilly :D

Either way, enjoy the day - and the prospects for warmer (and sunnier) ones coming up!

spring officially arrives at 6:45 pm tonight here in new york - right in the middle of a forecasted patch of snow!  it's hard to believe how gnarly a grip winter has had on the east coast - and the especially brutal february cold and snow we've had to slog through.  and here, on the first day of spring, winter refuses to give up the ghost!  the weather forecast is for anywhere between 2-4 inches of snow today, arriving around lunch and done by the end of the day.  with any luck, it'll all be melted away by tomorrow :D

today marks the point where daylight and darkness are approximately equal in length.  going forward we'll get increasingly more daylight - until we reach the summer solstice in june, and the process reverses.  hopefully, the increasingly longer days will be warmer!

happy spring - 2014 vernal equinox has arrived :D

spring officially arrives here on the east coast at 12:57 pm!  given the brutal winter we've slogged through over the last few months, it may actually take the weather gods a bit longer to get the message.  but for the moment, the temperature should crawl into the 50s - and, hopefully, stay above freezing for the next few days or so :D

i'm going to celebrate the arrival of spring by running in shorts this afternoon.  i ran in shorts last saturday - a quick glimpse of spring - only to see it drop 20 degrees the next morning (just in time for the nyc half).  but a few days of warm weather - plus a little sunshine - and winter will start to seem like an unpleasant memory.  that said, weather forecasts say temps are headed back into the 30's on monday... so carpe diem!
