Groundhog Day - 2020

Hurray - Phil did not see his shadow this morning!  He predicts we'll get an early Spring :D

Not to jinx his prediction (although the stats from the National Weather Service below don't point to a very reliable prognosticating performance!) - we've had a relatively mild "winter" so far.  I can only count one day of real (that is to say "have to shovel") snow so far.

Either way, don't pass up the opportunity to watch Bill Murray's classic today :D

Happy Groundhog Day - 2019

Happy Groundhog Day!  And the good news from Punxsutawney this morning, no shadow - Spring arrives 6 weeks earlier!  But given Phil's recent batting average (right just 40% of the time), flipping a coin would actually increase the prediction odds - haha.

Anyway, whether you have faith in Phil's prognostication skills, or not - today is the day to watch Bill Murray in "Groundhog Day" (what better way to celebrate?)...

Happy Groundhog Day - 2018!

Happy Groundhog Day!

Unfortunately, as I write this post, comes news that Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow - another 6 more weeks of winter (as the prognostication goes) :(

Lucky for us, Phil isn't the only game (rodent) in town.  According to Staten Island Chuck - our local authority on the matter - no shadow this morning.  Early Spring it is :D

In any event, early Spring or not, find some time to watch Bill Murry's "Groundhog Day!"

Happy Groundhog Day 2016!

Happy Groundhog Day!  Punxsutawney Phil just weighed in that Spring is just around the corner (he didn't see his shadow this morning)!  Great news - but a bit anti-climatic given the 50+ degrees we had here in the City yesterday :D

And what better way to celebrate than squeeze in Bill Murray's "Groundhog Day" today!

groundhog day 2013

it was difficult to believe punxsutawney phil's prognostication that we'd have an early spring this year when he didn't see his shadow -  when i crawled out of bed to a real feel temperature of nine degrees this morning!  nor was his forecast any easier to believe when it was bolstered by erstwhile nyc colleague staten island chuck's similar pronouncement.

but, heading out to long island for some prognosticating reality, malverne mel came out of his hut this morning and saw his shadow. and, as one smart groundhog, he immediately retreated to his hut and bundled up for another six weeks of winter!  even though mel is in the minority this time around, i think he got it right - unfortunately for us :(

and, since it is groundhog day... celebrate by watching bill murry in "groundhog day" - as if we haven't already seen it dozens of time :O
