2018 Stratford Last Chance for Romance 3 Miler: Race Photos & Results

The Stratford Last Chance for Romance was an oasis of dry, sunny weather - and a race as well!  Given the last two days of rain - and the rain coming down right now as I post this, it was wonderful to be outside and enjoy the respite from the otherwise waterlogged surroundings :D

As for the race itself (formerly the Stratford Sweetheart Run and 4 Miles, instead of 3), it's great course to run.  Downhill mile 1, relatively flat mile 2, and one BIG hill in Mile 3 - it covers all the bases!

Despite having run this race many times - I discovered the Stratford Amateur Radio Club building at Booth Park!  Wow! While it has nothing to do with the race, except being located in Boothe Memorial Park, it definitely gave this old ham a thrill!!  Unfortunately for me, it was closed - and didn't see any of the local members in attendance.

In a twist, awards were of the (mostly) edible variety.  I say that a bit tongue in cheek because my age a group award was a Christmas mug.  In a first, I took home two mugs from a race (instead of a shirt, we received mugs at sign up)!  I love race mugs!!

As for running the race,  my 22:18, 7:22 pace, was good enough for 3rd AG (hence the 2nd mug)!  And, Emmy and I won our team's AG (although for some reason Team results weren't broken out in that format).  We got some Valentine's day chocolates for that :D

Here are the official race results from runsignup.

2017 Norwalk Summer Series 3 Miler: Race Photos & Results

Soggy morning for a run - even if only a hilly 3 mile loop! The kick-off to the 2017 Summer Series was a bit on the soupy side, but still fun. This race starts alongside the high school track, so took the opportunity to run 4 loops as a warm-up before the start.

I've run this course many times and yet always seem to forget how hilly it is. I ran a too fast first mile (6:58) before slowing down to finish with a 21:49, 7:17 pace. Given the humidity, I was very happy :D

Here are the official results from Lightfoot Runners.  The next Series race (5 Miler) is July 1.

Thanks to Tony for the photo of the Start!

2014 norwalk summer series 3 miler: race photos & results

i missed the 3 miler last year -- and conveniently forgot how hilly the course is!  last year the start was moved to the high school track, which was a new twist for me.  except for the high humidity, it was a great morning to run!

i had hoped to run it in under 21 minutes, but with a 7:10 first mile, i wasn't going to hit that target today.  in fact, my 21:36, 7:12 pace, was well off the mark. still, i had a great time - and spent all the calories i burnt during the race on a post race cherry garcia ice cream bar :D

next up is the rowayton father's day run tomorrow.

here are the race results posted on hi-tek racing.

2013 jingle bell jog: race photos & results

this morning i ran the jingle bell jog 3 miler in greenwich. there were plenty of kids and christmas themed costumes on the course - and a good number of the runners wore the santa hats given out at registration!  and the post-race mimosa's were a fantastic way to rehydrate :D

my 21:30, 7:10 pace, reflected my slow start (a 7:30 first mile).  i wasn't near the front when the race got underway, so i spent the first quarter mile weaving my way through a seeming ocean of little kids!  be that as it may, it was still a lot of fun running with them - especially the pack of "girls on the run," who reminded me so much of running races with katie when she was that young :D

2013 bunny boogie: race photos and results

spring arrived, albeit somewhat begrudgingly, in time for the bunny boogie this morning.  begrudgingly because even though we had great weather for the race (which kicked off just after 9), when i woke up it was barely 32 degrees!  also, i was a little disappointed because i had planned to run the race w/katie.  but at the last minute she had a change of plans :(

as for the race itself, i was more than happy stringing together 7:20 miles, for a 21:55 finish (7:18 pace)!  given the low mileage i ran over the winter - and the utter lack of any speed work, this is a good benchmark to start off the spring training season (build the base back up and get over to the track)

here are the race results from clubct.

2013 dash before the splash 5k+

for the second year in a row i headed over to compo beach in westport for an easy 5k fun run before a bunch on intrepid polar bears took their annual plunge into the long island sound.  and, for the second year in a row, i skipped the plunge - and stuck to the run (which, incidentally, stretched closer to 3.5 miles than a 5k) :D

maybe next year for the plunge :O

2012 jingle bell jog 3 miler: race photos and results

it's been a long time since i ran the thread and treads jingle bell jog in greenwich - maybe 10 years ago in 2002?  but this is a fun holiday race - with some interesting hills along the lollipop loop course.  i planned to take the title literally - and jog the 3 mile course - after having run the roxbury marathon yesterday :D

aside from the race itself, lots of familiar faces - inluding a handful of my taconic rr teamates.  afterwards, the runners walked over  to the y, across the street from the finish line, for the post-race party (which included hot soup and mimosas).

here are the race results from threads and treads.

2010 norwalk summer series 3 miler: race photos and results

the 2010 norwalk summer series kicked off this morning with the 3 miler. it was a great day to be outside and don had a great turnout for the race. i ran a 20:30, 6:50 pace, for the course (on top of a one mile warm-up on the track). one sad note, don announced that joe handleman was in the hospital after suffering a stroke. don set up a poster for us to sign to give joe our "get well" wishes. the racing scene is a smaller place without joe. get well joe, we miss you!

update: word from joe's family it that he did not suffer a stroke. joe was hospitalized for bacterial meningitis two weeks ago. the antibiotics seem to be working and they are cautiously optimistic that joe will be home soon.
