2016 Stratford Sweetheart Run: Race Photos & Results
Cold - but nowhere near as cold as Sunday - reason enough to get the miles in on Saturday! Despite the frigid weather, the roads were clear and it was a great morning to run (especially when the race was just 3 miles, instead of it's typical 4)! This was the first year the Sweetheart Run was a 3 miler - the 19 previous years it was run as a 4 miler.
While I appreciated the shorter distance this morning, I miss the extra mile! Not sure the 4 mile course will ever be put back in service. But regardless of the distance, this is one race to have on your annual schedule (I've been running it since 2006 - with only 1 or 2 missed years).
As for this race, my 21:54 was good enough for first place in my age group! That was a very pleasant surprise! The 7:18 pace (thanks to some walking up the hill) was off the 7:11 pace at the Freezer 5K last weekend. But this course is a bit tougher. But, even better than the age group wind, - Emmy and I won the combined age group :D
Here are the official results.

2016 Taconic Road Runner's Freezer 5k: Race Photos & Results
Except for a couple of patches of ice here and there, there was nothing "freezing" about the Freezer 5k this morning. The race weather was a sunny, low 40's (and hard to believe snow is forecast for tomorrow)! The great weather made for an equally great turnout :D
As for the race itself, I found myself somewhat overdressed! The 22:14, 7:11 pace, missed my sub-22 target by 15 seconds (but walking up the last hill may have had something to do with that outcome). But I was plenty happy with it :D
Here are the official results from the Taconic Road Runners.

Happy Groundhog Day 2016!
Happy Groundhog Day! Punxsutawney Phil just weighed in that Spring is just around the corner (he didn't see his shadow this morning)! Great news - but a bit anti-climatic given the 50+ degrees we had here in the City yesterday :D
And what better way to celebrate than squeeze in Bill Murray's "Groundhog Day" today!

February 2016 Race Schedule
With 50 degree temperatures, it's hard to believe this is the first day of February! Given that two races last month were washed out for me (rain and snow, respectively), I hope that the weather holds up during the upcoming weekends!
February has a pair of Taconic races (the Freezer Fives) on the schedule, with the 5k this weekend and the 5 miler 2 weeks later. In between those two, I'm planning to head over to Prospect Park for the Cherry Tree 10 Miler. I haven't run that race in a long time - so i'm looking forward to the trip back to Brooklyn for it :D
The final weekend of the month includes the Boston Build-up 25k. Last year I ran the Colchester Half Marathon the day before the 25K. Not sure that I'm up for that particular double this time around - but let's see how the month develops.
Here's how it looks so far:
2/7 - Freezer 5K
2/14 - Cherry Tree 10 Miler
2/21 - Freezer 5 Miler
2/28 - Boston Build-up 25K
As always, if you're at any of these - say hello!
