2012 nfl back to footall run
last night's nfl back to football 4 miler in central park was an inaugural event - with the expectation that it's going to be an annual fixture on the nyrr race calendar. boomer (easiason) and (craig) carton did some pre-race announcing - and pointed out the amani toomer was running the race for charity (he was a handful of feet away from me in my corral)!
as for the race itself, it was fantastic to start in daylight and finish under the lights! but even with the "cooler" temperature after the sun went down, it was still 79 degrees. i came in well under my relatively soft target of 30 minutes. the 29:35 was good enough to crack the top ten in my new 5 year age group :D
here are the race results from nyrr.

packet pick-up for nfl back to football run
yesterday i stopped at niketown to for the nfl back to football packet pick-up. while niketown is closer to my office, it more of a hassle (having to switch over to the local at 42nd street) than heading up to the nyrr building for the pick-up. be that as it may, this will be race number 7 on the road to 9 for the 2013 nycm.
more interestingly, however, tomorrow night's race (7:30 start) will be my first evening run in central park in years. i can't remember whether the last one was the bsa 5k or the chase corp challege - either one was at least 2-3 years ago! i'm looking forward to this one!
as always, if you're at this one - say hello!

2012 westport summer series 15k: race photos and results
great weather this morning for the westport summer series 15k - it started off humid, but the wind came on strong during the race and cooled things off a bit. the race was my longest distance since early july. the low mileage of the last 6 weeks has taken a toll on my endurance, making the last two miles a struggle. i missed my 1:15 target by 17 seconds, but overall i was no worse for the wear - so that was a success!
i'll add a link to the results once they're posted.

2012 westport summer series 6.8 miler: race photos and results
the westport summer series 6.8 miler at compo beach this morning was my first bit of running since the 5 miler in central park last weekend. i think six straight days w/out running is something of a record (albeit not one i'm happy about) for me. my recovery from the compartment syndrome that's effected my right foot is coming along - slowly, but surely.
as for the race itself, never let stifling heat and humidity get in the way of course records. both the men and women's winner broke their respective course records this morning. that's impressive any day of the week. but with today's weather, it's downright amazing!
i ran a 53:13, 7:50 pace - which included walking to the top of the hill in mile four (or was that three?). it was a solid 2 minutes slower than the 51 minutes i ran this course in last summer. but given that i got to run it in the first place, i'm more than pleased with the outcome :D
i'll add a link to the results once they've been posted.

2012 taconic road runners club biathlon: race photos and results
i was a course marshall at the trrc biathlon this morning. i had toyed with the idea of doing the running leg (3 miles) as part of a relay, but decided not to push my luck with back to back races. yesterday's team championship 5 miler in central park was enough racing for this hot and humid weekend!
here are the results from trrc.

2012 nyrr team championships: race photos and results
it was humid this morning for the 5 mile team championship races. the fact it was hot too (it's always hot in august) was an afterthought. but the weather didn't matter much because while it's a race, it's also an excuse for the running clubs to come out in force and socialize :D
i was well off my goal of a 7:30 pace. my 38:14, 7:38 pace was one of my slowest 5 mile finishes. but the good news was that my ankle survived, no worse for the wear! i was actually more concerned about the effects of the heat and humidity. i was toast by cat hill :(
while i'm not out of the woods yet, i was glad to get in the miles in without backsliding.
here are the results of the men's race.
here are the results of the women's race.
here are the rest of my photos, posted on facebook.

august 2012 race schedule
with the sharp drop off in running (and races) over the last three weeks as i struggle to recover from a nagging ankle injury, i'm a bit dubious about putting together a race schedule for august. i will run in the nyrr team championship race this weekend - in need point number 6 on the road to 9 for 2013. but it will be more running than racing.
looking further down the road, i have to focus on building my base mileage back up. the last 3 weeks have seen mileage of 15, 12 and 10 miles, respectively. that's down from an average of 50 miles a week over the prior months. it's demoralizing to say the least - especially since i seem to be in the two steps forward, one step back, recovery mode.
i have a follow-up with the sports doctor next week to assess where i'm at. at that point i should be in better shape to map out what other races i can line up for in august.
