2015 NYRR Fifth Avenue Mile packet pick-up

This afternoon I stopped by NYRR to pick up my bib and shirt for the Fifth Avenue Mile.  To my surprise, it was one of those rare time I discovered my registration hadn't gone through!  Luckily it took just a couple of minutes to re-register me and get a new bib assigned.  I should have been tipped off that something wasn't right when I didn't receive a reminder email from NYRR - like they typically send out before a race :O

I haven't done the Fifth Avenue Mile in years (in fact, I need to look it up)!  This will be 2015 race #8 on the road to my 9+1 for the 2016 NYCM.  Still have to line up a volunteer slot - and the marathon itself should be race #9 :D

Never Forget - Today is the 14th Anniversary of the 9/11 Terrorist Attacks

 

Never Forget.  Today is the 14th anniversary of that fateful day when the cowardly forces of evil hijacked four commercial airplanes and caused the death of 2,977 innocent souls. Fourteen years later the World Trade Center site is now the home of the memorial, museum and Freedom Tower. But even with the physical changes and even with the passage of time, the tragic events of that day can never be forgotten.

"Radio Casablanca" North American shortwave pirate radio 6940 khz eQSL

This fantastic eQSL from Radio Casablanca was the biggest surprise of the day yesterday (it was the 3rd of 3 eQSL's and 1 eMail verification that arrived)!  I logged Radio Casablanca in early June on 6940 khz, broadcasting from an undisclosed location in North America, via my Sangean 909 receiver. 

In something of a small coincidence, I had watched Humphrey Bogart in "Sahara" last weekend!

"Transatlantic Broadcast" German shortwave pirate radio 6385 khz (via SDR) eQSL

This very cool eQSL arrived this afternoon from "Transatlantic Broadcast."  In something of a record, it was the 2nd of 3 eQSL's I received in one day (plus a separate eMail verification with the promise of an eQSL to follow)!  I'll post the third one tomorrow morning.

I tuned in to "Transatlantic Broadcast" on 6385 kHz, broadcasting from Germany, via the SDR at Twente.  They were playing some great 80's new wave - including the Thompson Twins, "Hold Me Now" followed by "Putting on the Ritz!"

"Radio Norton" Netherlands shortwave pirate radio 6325 khz (via SDR) eQSL

This nifty eQSL from Radio Norton arrived just over an hour after I submitted a reception report this afternoon!  I logged Radio Norton's broadcast, from the Netherlands on 6325 kHz (via the SDR at Twente), from my office here in the city. The programming consisted mostly of country western style music.

"Radio Enterhaken" German shortwave pirate radio 6260 khz (via SDR) eQSL

Just received this great eQSL from Radio Enterhaken - which translates to "Radio Grappling Hook!"  I heard their programs couple of times over the Labor Day weekend, broadcasting from Germany on 6260 kHz (via the SDR at Twente).  I love the eQSL artwork :D

"Studio 52" Netherlands shortwave pirate radio 6255 khz (via SDR) eQSL

 

I received this eQSL from Studio 52 this morning.  I heard John Fogarty's "Rock and Roll Girls," stopped to listen and realized it was Studio 52!  They were broadcasting, from the Netherlands, on 6255 kHz and I heard them via the SDR at Twente.  In addition to the fun eQSL version of a transmitter, they sent along a photo of their transmitter!
